Ninth Wave

2021, mixed media on paper, 48×36

The title stems from an old sailing expression that states that every ninth wave is a big one. It was inspired by Ivan Aivazovsky’s ‘The Ninth Wave’ where men where clinging onto a shipwreck after a storm. In using garbage elements in the painting it illustrates our current place in the world between extensive pollution and climate crisis holding on to the hope of a solution through an infallible capitalism.

The following video is an AI generated mesh-up of the paintings Garbage Island and Ninth Wave.
